...Tasty Nuts!

Ordered 2 sets of Ti bolts yesterday lunchtime, one from Tasty Nuts, one from CRC.

The Tasty Nuts set has arrived and is currently being drooled over at my desk. :D

CRC one has been shipped, just not arrived yet.

What bolts did you buy from each shop (soz if you mentioned but I have bolt-fever at the moment)

I need to get Ti bolts for my Avid Elixirs (which is what you have isn't it)

    FRONT CALIPER:
x2 bolts from Caliper to PM forks

    REAR CALIPER:
x2 for the caliper to adapter
x2 for the apater to frame.

El Cap... what sizes do I need as I keep hearing contradictory advice.

    Front Caliper to forks = M6 X 30

    Rear Adapter to Frame = M6 X30

Now, I'm not 100% sure what I used for the Caliper to adapter as I used a couple of Ti bolts I already had lying around, I'm assuming M6 X 20, but can confirm that tonight.

The ones I purchased yesterday were for the XTR Shifters:
M5 X 15 for the clamp (I know they apparently should be 16mm, but meh!) from CRC.
M5 X 12 (in anodized blue because I'm a tart, but not as much a tart as Andy) for the clamp to pod bolt from Tasty Nuts.

Cool, cheers for that, am defo going to get some this week.

Seems a lot of place (Tibolts for example) state that the caliper bolts are 20mm which seems a tad short.......

I too am going for ano red KCNC bolts for the Elixir levers ;)

I know. I remember I asked one of the guys on UKMB who was changing his Elixir's between bikes, to measure them, to be sure (he's an engineer, so knew what he was on about). From that I ordered the Nukeproof ones from CRC (and I've just rechecked my previous orders to confirm). I didn't have to cut them down, they were a direct replacement.

Have just measured them and you're right on the money.

M6/30mm for F Caliper to PM fork (x2)

    M6/30mm for R Caliper to Adapter (x2)

    M6/20mm for frame to R Adapter (x2)

    M5/15mm for lever mounts (x4)

    About £37 worth!!!!

I am now looking at the Marin, and the standard bolts are screaming out "change me change me" - God - I need help!!!

HAHA! I know what you mean.

I have seriously left the Coiler alone. Well, apart from the black alloy chainring bolts, ti inner chain ring, custom stem cap...

Road bike is all Ti'd up. And that was done in the days when it was reeeeealy expensive.

TT bike hasn't had anything changed on it as I don't technically own it yet - bike to work scheme purchase. Not sure yet whether to do anything to it, although I have been looking at some very nice pimp carbon brake levers for the aerobars...

Commuter - I've put black alloy bottle cage and rack bolts on this, but TBH as it spends 90% of it's life covered in road film/dirt (makes it less attractive to be stolen), it's not worth the effort or expense.

NRS is pretty much there now. I might see if I can change some of the screws/bolts on the XTR pedals, get a non-QR Hope seatpost clamp (will need a Ti bolt), see what can be changed from steel to Ti on the Reba's Pop-loc.

Yep, you need to know 'when' to leave something alone. Everyone has their 'fav' bike that gets all the shiny bits and weighs nowt..... NRS for you, Marin for me.

It would be pointless trying to shave any weight off the GT, as that's meant to be a vruiser, and at 34lb I can handle it. The gold KCNC bits were just to liven it up a bit. I won't be swapping any bolts over on it etc....

I am seriously thinking of getting anodised Ti bolts to match the frame now.....trouble is, all the blues won't match so may just leave them natural Ti.

Still an awful lot of money for 10 little bolts

But hey, this is my 'vice' if you will, crack is even more expensive probably (depending on your 'habit')

I'll see your clamp and raise you an Extralite one:

    http://www.extralite.com/index_euro.htm

(you'll have to search for the Ultraclamp)

    11g...

That said, I do like that KCNC one and will order one once the 34.6mm ones with the red cap come back in stock.

With my girth I cant really see the point in spending hellacash on Ti.

Don't deny it, you know it makes sense...

Think how much weight you could shift of the Heckler. Probably, if you changed every nut and bolt for alloy or Ti, you'd be looking at 150g lighter. Now that's just got be value for anybody's money. :D

People must think we're bonkers

... maybe we are... oh well ;)

Right, nukeproof ti bolts from CRC
    KCNC bolts from clee cycles

    comes all-in to £41

The KCNC seatclamps look nicer than the ultralite IMHO, and the little 'splash' of colour is a nice touch. The machining is excellent and they are very compact. Worth waiting for ;)

    LOL - very true.

I only drink once a week (twice if Im lucky/missus C isn't around) and saved shedloads (used to go out everynight of the week 'back in the day') ;)

Lost some weight too, but banged it back on due to working from home/myself

Blasphemy! I preferred the sleek, minimalist looks of this one. I must admit, i was slightly worried about the scandium bolt, but it's been fine and i've been using it for months offroad.

She does everything, that's what she does, she's an accountant.

I am useless around anything that involves tax, calculations, returns etc.... to her it comes second nature until it comes to buying shoes, then it all goes out the window.

She's probably cyphoning (Sp?) off money to some 'other' account for her evil purposes!!!

20mm is the right length for many calipers and adaptors. Depends on the exact parts but all of mine are either 20mm or 18mm. Shimano supply 20mm, or something very close to that, so do Formula. I think maybe Avid would need more because of the pointlessly complicated mounting system maybe?

Yep, Avid need longer bolts due to the thickness of the caliper mounting plate and all the gubbins in between (conical washers and spacers etc)

I got there in the end

True, the ones on the Giant MPH3 brakes that I replaced with the Avids were all 20mm (although one had to be cut down to 17mm to stop the rotor hitting it).

Did you hear that? I don't think it was the sound of those bolts snapping.
