Removal/Refitting Tektro Auriga Comp Pads.

Hi

I have Tektro Auriga Comp brakes on a GT Aggressor XC2.

I'm about to remove the the brake pads, for a check etc. I have never done this before. So I thought it best to ask a few questions first rather than get in a mess and ask later!

I have the Tektro manual.

1, I was going to remove the caliper rather than the wheel as I'll have to re-adjust it anyway. Is this right?

2, When refitting, should I use thread lock on the retainer bolt? and the Caliper bolts?

3, I noticed from the manual that on removal of the pads there is also a pad connecting spring and a pad stopper, and in the picture there also appears to be a small spacer/washer, though this does not appear to be in the blow up diagram. In fact the blow up diagram seems to refer to the parts with different names to that in the instruction section and the so called Pad Stopper doesn't get a mention on refitting. Hence the confusion.

So I was basically unsure of what to expect when i took it apart as in what else comes out with the pads?, and was hoping someone could help!

Thanks.

    Hi mate,
The pads are really easy to remove. I would leave the caliper alone and remove the wheel. Much easier that way. All you need do is remove the pad retaining bolt on the side of the caliper and slide the pads out. They should come out together with the metal spring. Thats it! 2 things i would advise are to not touch the brake lever when your pads are out as you may have trouble opening the caliper to get the pads back in and dont over tighten the retaining bolt when refitting. Just pinch tight will do.

    Thanks for that.

Should I use thread lock on the Retaining bolt, when refitting?

    Thanks again...
