Maltodextrin.

This could just as easily be a few other threads but as it's a 'food' query, Cake Stop seems appropriate...
Anyways - maltodextrin is a source of good quality, slow release carbohydrate. Does anyone know what foods/products contain it in large(ish) quantities? Obviously it is preferable that the stuff can be carried and easily consumed on the bike. Awaiting replies with interest. Ta.

It seems to be the main ingredient in a lot of artificial sweetners, but I don't know what 'end product' it's common in.

You can buy it from here and make up your own energy drinks.

JibberingJim's website is a great place for recipes for home made energy drinks.

I think it's quite a quick release, certainly compared to fructose/dextrose.

I buy it raw and make it into drinks. You won't be surprised to find gels and energy bars full of it, some are 80% maltodextrin.

What kind of foods are you thinking of? Pre-ride foods or foods to take along on a ride?

A bit of both really, but mostly for during a ride. I burn through energy pretty quickly so anything that'll help before and during. Thanks for any advice.

meh? main ingredient in artificial sweetners?!

This is a sugar, we are talking about. Nothing artificial about it. It is NOT calorie free.

Only difference to the white stuff is that it is a more complex sugar... Try myprotein.com for cheap bulk buys as above.
