Does bar tape without adhesive still exist?

Having just spent 30 minutes with white spirit removing the remnants of tape I was taking off, I'm fed up of adhesive tape. There's no point in it if you're any good at wrapping, as the tension in the tape holds it on anyway. So is there any still available without the glue on?

  • Bontrager double gel tape. No adhesive, just slightly tacky so as not to slip, and bloody comfy to boot.

  • Put some Specialized Roubaix tape on about a month ago, pretty sure that didn't have an adhesive backing. Nice texture to it as well. Also used the Bonty stuff as well, that's quite good too...

I've never seen the point of adhesive on tape, as whyamihere says it is un-nescessary and a bloody pain in the butt to get off.

It is necessary for the manufacturers profits. If the tape self destructs upon removal you have to buy some more.

    +1 for the Bonty stuff.

I was after some cinelli gel tape for my new build but couldnt get any local and the shop had some bonty stuff in. it has a small gel strip on the underside which helps to grip the bar aswell as giving a little cushioning. Very easy to fit (it was my first time ever if fitting tape and went extremely well, only had to do the once! ! !) and its very comfy. Plus the end plugs you get are reflective which will help if out at night.

+1 for the specialized tapes. I have re-used s-wrap and phat tape several times and it leaves no residue. Comfy stuff too.

Tape the bars with electrical tape first, then you can remove bar tape with ease whenever you want.
