I've had enough of being tail end charlie on my mountian bike shod with slicks when out with friends who are all on Road Bikes and have decided to bite the bullet.

Budget can be up to about£850 and want to use my local bike shops. I've visited both and am happy with the level of service and advice offered by both.

Between the shops I can select from Trek, Scott, Giant, Specialized and Corratec. However not sure if any one is better than the other so after some thoughts.

So far I have tried a Giant Defy 2 & 3 and a Trek 1.2 in sizes that fit me.

I'm not aiming to be joining my local bike club, am just after enjoying my cycling and building up from my current 35 mile runs to cycle from Inverness to Perth in September this year.

Thanks

I'm not going to be able to offer much advice I'm afraid, but using my powers of deduction (your user name, manufacturer options and planned bike trip), I reckon the two shops are Richards and Perth City Cycles:)

I've never bought anything out of Perth City Cycles - I've always seen it as more of a mountain bikers and BMX'ers shop. But the guy that runs it seems nice enough. I've used Richards for repairs and things like shoes - never a bike though.

I'd maybe try narrowing the options down a bit - by seeing what sort of deal the two shops are willing to offer you.

    +1

Always look for the deals! Also think about kit you may need. Most shops would be willing to chuck 10% worth of the bike into kit if they get a sale!

Personally, I like the speshs'. Always a good build quality and decent kit for your money. Try them out before you buy though!

Opted for the Giant Defy 2.

Was sat on the Specialized Secteur when best mate text me to say he just bought one so couldn't have identical bike to him could I ! So just upspec'd and went for the Defy 2 instead of 3, but don't tell Mrs T how much I spent please!
