I'm upgrading my shimano pedals to one of the above, so I'd like peoples opinion on which to buy from either people using these pedals or have used them in the past. What are the pros & cons of the pedals if there is any, are they comfortable? Easy to use, clip in & out? etc...

I have the Speedplays.....and absolutely love them.

I got them as they have unlimited float, which means no issues for my knees. Have ridden them for many years now with zero issues. They are incredibly easy to get in/out of yet I have never once had an accidental release. They allow me plenty of room for my feet to move as needed yet one simple motion and perfect release every time. Getting in is a piece of cake as slight pressure just clips you in.

There is only 1 downside and that is the bulky cleat sticking off the bottom of your shoe. It makes walking more of a challenge and I wouldnt want a long walk home after a bike failure etc. Get the rubber cleat covers (that should be included really) and it makes a big difference though.

I havent used the Look's so cant compare but honestly have never felt the need to even look at another pedal since finding the Speedplays 8)

Shouldn't you be looking at Speedplay Zeros (which are very good) rather than Xs? The X is the old design AFAIK.

You mean the Speedplay Zero Titanium?

Both very good, reliable pedals. The most obvious difference is the extra float you'll get from the Speedplays which can be adjusted to taste with the Zero version. IMO the Speedplays are slightly easier to clip in and out of and can be clipped in from both sides of the pedal. Some feel the Look's have a more stable feel to them. Personal preference mostly. Both have plenty of happy users. Also note that the Speedplays have a rider weight limit for their Ti axles since they can bend if you're a big rider.

Also do the speedplay take alot of adjusting on the shoes to get them in the right position. It took me ages to get the right position on my shimano ones.

For me they're easier since the cleats come in two layers. The first layer is fore/aft with a slight allowance for rotation and the other part is side-to-side with a slight rotational adjustment possible as well. I should say that if you already know about where you like the fore/aft adjustment the rest is easier than the one piece Shimano but if starting from scratch you'll have to undo 4 screws to remove the top plate to get to the fore/aft adjustment again.

I have contemplated this move recently, but so far I have stuck with Shimano.
May I ask what has made you look at other pedal/cleat types?...
    Just curious.

I'm upgrading for a few reasons, one because the speedplay pedals are much lighter and two ive heard lots of reviews that their good for your knees.
