improving overall fitnees

i have great cycling fitness, but my overall (running....) fitness is poor, whats the best way to quickly improve this, along with my cardio vascular fitness? without the gym?
i also want to improve my uper body stength, what are good exercises to imporve that....
I like bikes and stuff

    There was a thread about upper body strength not long ago.

    As for CV, ride more and start running would be my (laymans) advice.

    running would be good i spose' i ridde enough, well, as much as i have time for, so thats not the issue.

    I'm no expert, it just seems that if you want to get better at running, then you should do more running :P

    Also, try adding little targets into your rides, so sprint to the next gate, keep it in the middle ring up that hill, etc

  • Sorry to hijack thread but, if I'm riding 120+ miles a week and my only exercise is on my bike, will my fitness in other things improve like running and swimming?

    Yes but not by as much as if you did the other disciplines too.

    You're missing out on muscle specific training.

    Your overall fitness will improve though yes.
