I've been bad, I went on holiday leaving my CX covered in muck, when I got home my first commute resulted in a snapped left shifter and a front derailleur that wont do it's job. I've taken it off soaked it in white spirit then soaked it in oil and finally grease, it now moves but very sluggish, is there anything else I can do or should I bin it?

I assume you've made sure it actually is the mech rather than the cable?

+1 re cable. I sprayed some teflon down the cable outer, too.
    FCN 2-4.

I bought myself a roll of dura ace cabling then bought some new campag 10 speed shifter for £49 which came with a full set of inner & outers, bargain!

Shame because I know campag shifters can be repaired but the cost and hassle means it's unlikely I ever will :(
