Hybrid v Road (Data)

Although this is not scientific it does prove "to me" that a Hybrid can't perform as well as a road bike.
I have a Roubaix Pro and recently bought a Sirrus Sport with a view to possibly buying the Sirrus Pro. This was because I like the more "heads up" position.
However after doing 4 identical rides on both bikes the stats are overwhelmingly in favour of the Roubaix. I guess I knew they would be but not as much !!!
The data is based on an average of 4 rides per bike, ie 104 miles.
I am not a fit person so please don’t judge my mph etc.
The ride is based on 26 mile loop on rolling terrain and a couple of medium hills.
Bike Time Ave mph max speed* Cadence
Roubaix Pro 1h36m 16.3 28.8 88
Sirrus Sport 1h 49m 14.3 24.4 64
* 1 mile
I have only been out on my bike a few times since November last year and I can see from my data last year I am 2.2 mph behind my average for 2010.
Anyone thinking of replacing their drops for flats should think again if they are going more than 20 miles. I usually do 50 - 70 miles on a ride so I guess its a no no.
The Roubaix just seems an easier and faster ride for less effort, and it spins much easier, not to mention no pins and needles in the fingers!
Here's looking fwd to some good weather and decent cycling

I think you've the hit the nail on the head. Pushing a too big gear on the Sirrus whereas spinning, on a lower gear, on the Roubaix Pro which produced a faster speed.
Perhaps OP ought to repeat experiment using the same cadence.0 -
Roubaix Pro £3500
Sirrus Sport £499
I'm not surprised the Roubaix is faster.0 -
I think it is fairly well established by now that if you duck down out of the wind you will be faster than if you ride in an upright position. They conducted similar experiment to yours round the turn of the 19th/20th centuary and came to the same conclusion.0
