Which groupset is better: Ultegra 6500 or new 105

I've got a mix of Ultegra 6500 and 6600 on my current bike and I'm thinking of getting a new road bike which comes with new ten speed 105.
Assuming the new frame is better than the old frame would I better off leaving the groupsets as they are (i.e. leave the ultegra on the old bike) or should I switch them around.
The old bike has everything 6600 apart from brakes which are 6700 and shifters which are 6500.

The essence of my question is - how much trickle down has there been in the last 3-4 years?0

the short answer is aquite a lot of trickle.
I've read several reports that the new 105 is very close to 6700 ultegra in terms of performance.0 -
No question, keep the new 105. Even the old 105 was not far off Ultegra and the new Shimano gets hidden cables and all that good stuff plus it's NEW and new is always better than old. Seriously though I have a bike with 105 and it's loads better than my warn Dura Ace.0

Easy. Since 105 (I assume you mean 5600) and Ultegra 6600 are interchangeable, get whatever 6600 bits you have on your current bike onto your new bike. There you have it. It will save you a wee bit of weight but not much in terms of performance. Whether it's worth the hassle is up to you obviously, but why not if it makes you feel good?0

Well the Ultegra stuff is all 9 speed and the 105 is ten so I'm not sure about compatability (apart from the brakes and chainset).
Incidentally the bike I'm thinking of is the Focus Cayo 105 Ltd which comes with a compact gossamer chainset.
I might well switch that for the Ultegra chainset which isn't a compact but I'm not 100% sure it will be compatible with the narrower chain?0 -
What 6600 "bits" do you have exactly? If you have 6600 brakes, definitely put that on the cayo. In my experience, the 6600 brakes are much better than the 5600 ones (which has the same design as the Tiagra 4500), not only in weight, but the difference in braking force is definitely noticeable. I suspect because of stiffer/stronger caliper arms or even the pads. Any experienced roadie will tell you that.0

He doesn't say he has Ultegra 6600. He has got 6500.
I say your 105 is probably pair, or even a tinny bit better, than 6500.x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x
