All,

Looking at buying a new set of wheels.
Currently I ride an Allez Elite 2008 Model (Tiagra) which came with Jalco wheels which i have never had a problem with...

Plan is to buy a decent set of wheels and hopefully use them next year to build a Tarmac SL3.

I mainly train in the hills in the Peak District and do a few Sportives.
Also doing an event in the Dolomites this summer.

I am small/light rider 5'6" and about 55kg so I guess the wheels dont need to be excessively strong.I have a budget of £500 . They must be Shimano 9sp/10sp compatible.

I have read a lot of good things about these - Shimano Dura Ace Wheels CL Clincher 7850
but anyone got anymore suggestions as i dont know too much about all different makes/models.

Thanks for any help..

Yes, the 7850CL-24 are very good wheels...unless you go over a pothole in the road at 35mph and buckle them beyond repair like I did!

That said, they are very light, spin up hills nicely and you'd be hard pushed to do better for the money.

Finally, someone else who isn't a big fat heffer!! I'm a similar weight and height myself!

Can't give you much advice for your price range - when I was looking for wheels I only had a £200 budget.

Let us know what you got!

A few months back I was in a similar position, 5'5" 64Kgs. Budget of £500 done some research and was near to importing a pair of Rolf Prima wheels from the States but one call to Derek the Wheelsmith, he asked all the right question, offered advice and he got my order. Give him a call you have nothing to lose and a lot to gain

didn't think my search for light weight would work on the forum.

I'm a light rider just under 9 stone whatever that is in kgs!

I'm after a new pair of wheels for my Trek Madone 4.7 I would love a pair of carbon rims as they look sexy but I think the wind issue won't work for me.

Can anyone offer any advice on what would be good for ? Looking in the 1k plus price range

I think a lot of people would agree, before you part with any of your hard earned cash go speak to a wheel builder, and get the best wheels they can build for you.
I can recommend Steve at the Wheelroom, (Roadace).
I've never had that money spare :(
