Snowdon, ride up camp, ride down......Simples......
Hi all,
I remember reading on a website somewhere out there that there was a company that organised trips up Snowdon.
As the title suggests, the ride up in the afternoon to a base camp, camp overnight and the following day, the company organises to bring all the camping kit down whilst you ride the final bit of the climb before hairing it down before the end of the 10am curfew.
Anybody have any idea who this company is?
Ta!

Don't know of it, and I've lived up here for 15yrs. Wild camping may be what you mean, but not sure if this is the scheme.
Seems a bit dodgy to me!0 -

Well done. The shop is in Betws y Coed, passed in yesterday, and they got some nice bikes.
No riding at the moment probably, Snowdon feet deep in snow/ice. Worst I've seen since holiday here for over 30yrs. Normally clears by April/May. Enjoy!0 -
I've done it but not with a guide. Like splottboy I live near and ride snowdon a lot. All we had was a 30ltr rucksack with a lightweight sleeping bag, 3/4 length kip mat and a goretex bivibag. and some warm kit and a cooker thrown in.
we rode/pushed up after 5pm and got settled in near the summit for the night with some hot scoff and a brew. Next morning packed up and headed down. It can get cold up there even in the summer.
Get some lightweight gear for a good price at www.alpkit.com and ditch the price of a guide. I will take you up for the price of a brewNiner Air 9 Rigid

Scale 20- I'm coming up with some mates to ride snowdon I think on the 11th June or whatever the weekend is around then. Thinking of going up from llanberis and then down the miners in an evening like u suggested if ur around? :-)0

I should be around mate. I take it you want to go up and down the same evening?
The Llanberis path is a good ride down but it's over before you know it. A good ride down is the Rangers path, some of the top sections are pretty hairy and test your riding in places and then back down Telegraph valley back into Llanberis. The rangers path doesn't get as mobbed with walkers as the main llanberis path.
One way I will be trying before then is to road ride up the Llanberis pass from llanberis to Pen Y pas then taking the PYG track up on the bike. most of that path is ridable and by riding up the pass you more or less half way up the mountain.Niner Air 9 Rigid

sorry, the rangers path is what i meant  iwalked down the pyg track last time, that's be mental!!!!
but yeah, up and down in the same evening is what we're planning0 -
The PYG track should be ok. Like I say I've walked it plenty but not ridden up it. My thinking is, that it kind of get's you half way up and the track is more or less flat with no mental climbs appart from the first few hundred meters and the last steep climb up towards the summit path.
Going up the Llanberis path is a long drawn out affair and gets a bit of a drag having to push and carry at the steepest sections after the half way cafe and past Clogwyn station.Niner Air 9 Rigid

One thing I don't quite understand with the ride up and camp is........
Where do you camp??? I didn't think there was any campsites up Snowdon and as it's National Park land, I didn't think wild camping was allowed?Craig Rogers0 -
Wonder if the "CROW" rules now allow Wild Camping? Could be...
Currently, more snow/ice on the top of Y Wyddfa than in the Winter Olympics LOL.
Only bike suitable at the moment is...Yeti!0 -
Hi I spoke to national park ranger about rough camping on Snowdon and it is not allowed officially.
But i can't see who would be around to stop you and as long as you left no litter etc i can't see why not.
We're thinking about it for a bit of a summer jolly0 -
bivvied out up there a few times...my mate kipped on the top one NYE, all the drinks froze solid except for the Brandy!
Scale: riding the pyg track, wow.....demanding. let us know how you get on.0 -
I fancy this too, think you would get some fantastic pics as the sun rises0

Covered in snow still, ice everywhere.
Walked up on the shortest day of the year in 1985, started at midnight, got to the top at dawn. Mate of mine who was a semi-pro photographer took some amazing shots.
Got a few framed up, looks like the Himalays, no kidding.
Then did 7 peaks over 3,000ft on the hottest day of the year, failed the others, too tired!
( Ok, ok, I'm waiting for the first, "Woke up at the crack of dawn...Dawns boyfriend wasn't very happy.)0
