Brake Pads and Back Protection

Hey Guys,
My rear Avid Elixirs are in need of a new pad set. I'm confused as to which to get, sintered, metallic etc, and whether any one brand has been found to be significantly better than any others? Is http://www.superstarcomponents.com/ any good? Also, seeing as I'm entering the descent-Gear Clipped-In race in Easter and I'm under 18 I need back protection. Opinions? POC seem to be getting consistent high reviews, and in Dirt the new O'Neal back protector got a mention.
Thanks in advance for any help

Superstar pads are great. I would stay away from the Semi metallic ones though.
I use the sintered pads and my dad uses the kevlar ones.
Get the sintered if you want them to last longer but the kevlar if you want great bite from cold.0 -
I've been well pleased with all the Superstar pads I've used but you're likely to have someone say that the pads will fall off the backing plate. They used to have that problem but don't seem to now.
As for back protectors, POC are probably the best ppe maker out there but the best protector is one that fits and which you'll wear, no point in being hugely protective if you never want to put it on. The Forcefield one is good as well though it's really motorbike kit rather than pushbike.Uncompromising extremist0 -
got a back protector from these guys. VERY comfy and a multi use design (rather than a lot of single crash/throw away designs)
