Routes outside of Manchester?

Hi all - i'm up in manchester this weekend but have taken the Monday off work - so thinking of taking the bike up with me and going for a ride on Monday. Can anyone recommend any good routes or locations on the way from Manchester to London?

I'm thinking there must be a few good trails around the peak district way?
