Can anyone point me to a previous thread, or give me some advice on how best to resolve the caliper-in the-way-of-the-stays problem?

Thanks in anticipation...

it al depends on the fork.

    what is your set up?

It's the rear I was having trouble with. The rear/lower stay will line up with the braze-on unobstructed, but the top/forward stay wants to go straight through the caliper (and the guards are SKS, so they're in one piece).

    pics?

often a different bolt and and a nut and some pliers fix it.

but as i have no idea what you have i dont know.

and SKS do make a hell of a lot or mud guards.

  • I had to put a bend in the front stay of my SKS mudguard to clear a disk caliper:

    would that work for you?

+1. Guess it depends how much spare stay you have to play with.

if I remember rightly, I had to cut off 2 to 3 cm of each stay during fitting - they seem to give you plenty to cope with the odd kink.

Cutting the stuff is hard though - I hacksawed through 1/2 and then snapped the end off with the help of jumbo pliers

right - just had a proper look at mine.

front was done just by bending stays.

however, caliper was bamg in the way of rear stay. I used a very long bolt, with a selection of nuts/washers to effectively move the point at which the stay meets the frame outwards, givng enough room to then bend the stay past the calipers.

    Thanks for all the replies!

My LBS gave me some small extension plates with a hole at each end which effectively move the attachment points backwards by an inch or so. Looks like they'll work a treat.
