Does anyone believe that a bike bag is a viable way of transporting a bike in a car as opposed to a rear rack (scratches car), roof rack (lowers mpg and chance of knocking bike off!), towbar mounted rack (to expensive when car does not have have towbar).

I've seen a few on wiggle and crc etc but just wanted to gauge the thoughts of the forum.

Cheers

Why bother with a bike bag? I've got a small car, and I fold the back seats down, put a big sheet of plastic down in the back/boot, and put the bike on that.

    Me too.

I just fire an old bed sheet (which I use as a dust sheet now) in the back of the car with the seats down. I drive a Civic and it fits fine with the seats folded flat.

If I end up doing lots of car trips with the bike (which I doubt) I'll look at a rear rack but so far, chucking it in the back of the car works fine like that. Just cover the seats up and you'll be fine.

I do have a rear rack but only use it when there are more than 2 riders in the car. I can quite easily fit 2 bikes and and another two people in the back of my dads Nissan Primera (to young to drive lol  )

The rear rack has never marked the car only my bike has when it slipped just before i went riding and it smashed the rear light DOH! but I suppose it depends on what kind of car you have whether it marks it or not
