Can anyone recommend a budget stand that will allow me to carry out maintenance on my bike. Happy to go for a floor standing or wall mounted.
The cheaper the better, but obviously want one thats up to the job.
Cheers

moved to the buying advice section as that is what it is.
also try the search in this section as it is a monthly question and there are lots of topics on it."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

It's a winner, solid and cheap(ish) perfect!0 -

Don't get a cheap as chips one. You'll break it (or I broke mine anyway). Get a park tools one - they are cheapish and solid - it has to take the weight of your bike.http://www.georgesfoundation.org

The one I linked and CWNT linked aren't cheap as in the 'cheap and tacky' sense, strong as you like and can comfortably hold my 34lb big hitter....
Theres absolutely no need to shell out another £30-40 for a stand which is (IMHO) no better0 -
There is also this:
http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/ws-100-wo ... #AVANTAGES
It is a different type than the others. It has no clamp it rests the BB on the stand and straps in place.
Theres a thread with pics here (its the one on page 2 with the boardman on it).0 -
Here's the best deal I found when looking the other day. Same stand that seems to be £65-70 in most places for £54.78:

bobcheese I used to have the Spindoctor version of this stand (which was much MUCH more expensive) and it was brilliant. Only limitations were that you had to remove the front wheel to mount the bike on the stand and it wouldn't work with 20mm forks. That's why mine had to go in the end
Great for carbon bikes though as no clamping is involved.

That's the one I was looking to link, couldnt find it though. That'd be the one I would go for personally.0 -

+1. Great stank - very stable and folds away.0 -

I have the first one from Merlin and it is fab!
This is the first time that I have used a bike stand and now I actively look for pieces of work to do that would mean me having to use my new stand as it makes things so easy!0 -
I got this from Edinburgh Bicycle;
£17.99 and it hold both my Mountain Bike and road Bike without any problems.

I have another one from Ribble, and it is so good, a must for home bike maintenance imho:

Rock solid, good clamp - bit large, but I keep mine in the garage, so it's fine for me.
I find the little red tray invaluable as well.

Actually managed to get to the post office finally to pick up the stand I'd ordered from Ribble. Really impressed by the build quality and it folds up really easily with quick-releases on all the relevant clamps. Very happy with it.0 -

That's the one I've got, had it about a year and a half, it's sturdy loads of adjustments, totally recommended.0 -
^^^^^ As above, from Ribble, brilliant stand and quality build.Adam.

Thanks to all for the Ribble links - I have mine on order now !0
-
Thanks also. Have ordered one based on the recommendations here. Hope it can cope with my heavy i-drive0
-
I have the same stand and it can cope with my Sanction which is 34lb0
-
One word of advice is to clamp it by the seat post so if you do clamp it to tight then you only wreck the seat post0
-
How quick are Ribble usually on delivery? Ordered Monday and the stand was in stock (and still is), but according to their system they still haven't dispatched it. Really need something by the weekend0
-
Provided the stock's there, very quick usually. Wouldn't surprise me if it just turned up unannounced0
-
Well, they said it's in stock at the time. Still says it's in stock. No sign of it shipping and nothing has turned up. The system just says it's in processing with their warehouse.
Have contacted them, but it's too late now for the weekend which is when I really wanted it. I need to do some work on the bike and I'll need to do some kind of DIY solution for now.
