I'm after a helmet to wear on the road bike and on the mountain bike, I prefer with peak for MTB riding and without for road. What helmets can people reccomend that look ok both ways?
I was thinking the S works

that's if the peak unclips of course or maybe one of the giros, I'd prefer not to have to buy two helmets, especially if I've gotta replace them every three years as mentioned in another topic!

I know you said you didn't want to buy two helmets BUT why not get a piss pot style lid and a really good xc lid.

You can get a good piss pot for £20 and a good xc lid for £30

I want the same thing, helmet for road and mtb, but I'm struggling to find a lid with a removeable peak. Anyone know of any?

The MET Mythos aparantly has a removable peak.

Dunno wether you would be able to put it back on mind.

BTW I thought it was every 5 years you had to replace your helmet but every three years if for insurance purposes ie if you run a mtb skills course

I am very happy with my Specialized Aurora helmet from a few years back, I 'think' all or most spesh helmets come with removable peaks, though they are rarely pictured with them.

Mine has a peak that is easily removable.

My Rudy Project Kontact has a removable peak as well, I thikn most of their range do too.

    Cheers

So then he's got one helmet for MTBing and, erm, another one for MTBing? :?

The Specialized one has a removable peak.

My Bell Sweep has a removable Peak, but I always thought ALL peaks were removable - they're designed to break off in an accident are they not?... :?

he wanted a helmet without a peak and most road helmets have a peak do they not? Would also give him two options for riding off road with depending on what he's doing. I know I prefer ma dirt jump helmet to ma xc helemt at freeride parks and the like

    @IIamafarmer

yes they are design to break off in a crash but he wants a helmet where you can take off AND put the peak back on

THE Industries F-14. Pisspot style coverage but with normal road/mtb vents. Also has removable peak.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

But isn't that very expensive, the same as a lot of full facers if I remember correctly

    Just as an example;

I didn't see you had posted about two spesh helmets already

I would be surprised if the peaks did not come off on them too.

And looking at the description on both of the helmets you listed on the actual Evans page
Patented clip-on matching colour visor included

    A done deal then.

D'oh! Din't see that bit! The S Works looks great both ways, I was hoping it had the removable peak. Wish it still had the teeth in the front grill like the old pihranha, that was a great little touch

I just bought the Boardman MTB helmet, you can use with peak or without by unclipping it. Very nice helmet and a bargain at £50.

    This.

Pretty sure all peaks are removable. All the helmets Ilooked at when I bought my Bell were removable.

What makes you think they wouldn't be?

I know it's old  , but road helmets don't have peaks, MTB ones do.

  • Scott Fuga has a removable and adjustable peak.

I've got one and it's great, very light, but nice and strong too.

Added bonus: Evans currently have them on at £35 (but you'll need a small head)

Elsewhere, they are £85 I think.

My Met Kaos UL has a detachable peak and looks OK on both counts. Designed for XC and nice 'n' light if you're a weight weenie :)
