Hi guys,

I have been sent an invite to join the cyclescheme, I don't really need another bike, I've already got 3; Kona Dawg Supreme '08 (all rounder), NS Surge '08 (freeride hardtail), and a Genesis Vapour '09 (commuter/roadie).

However, I would like to get some equipment, the scheme states you can buy a bike and equipment, could you use the scheme to get only equipment? Or do I have to buy a bike?

    Bike AND equipment.

    Not bike or equipment.
  • Depends how well you get on with your bike shop and if they would be willing to say the equipment is a bike.

I have seen this happen with someone within our works scheme.

It's also supposed to be safety equipment for your commute to work. Yes some bike shops will break the rules but it is fraud. The inland revenue is currently cracking down on this sort of abuse. If you get caught it is fraud, you'll probably be stung for the NI & tax at the very least.

It is this sort of abuse that the tax man is getting very uppity about so you really shouldn't be doing it.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result
