Mavic Ksyrium Elites or planet x carbon 50's. Disciplines will be road racing (mostly) and time trialling. What do we think. My budget is around £400-430.

For TT's the planet X wheels would probably be your best option. heavier but faster rolling. Get a nice slick tyre on there too.
Shame we have to decide between two disciplines for 1 set of wheels...in an ideal world we'd have both.

Always the 50mms. Is there really a choice?

    50mms for both.
  • What about weight on climbs ? What are the pros and cons ?

It's rotational mass vs air resistance.
When climbing you'll probably notice the heavier wheels more but once on the flat/downhill the x's will come into their own being more aerodynamic.

I guess you'll have to weigh up the facts of which would benefit your style of riding more.

Lightweight helps if you're responding to accelerations. However, the mavics aren't really that much lighter than the 50s, if at all once tyres are on, and are quite a bit less aero. If you're going to win a road race you'll find yourself in the wind at some point so I'd always go for aero. If you can get both though that's even better!
