For mainly cycling along coastal trails and roads so not really any type of testing terrain to deal with. Ive been looking on winstanley bikes and seeing bikes from 2006/7/8 drasticaly reduced, are these bikes even worth considering?

I've got a Proflex 768 full sus. Very nice frame/bike, no problems with it. They were a US company, making their original full sus bike with elastomers. Now, I think they are Spanish.
Check their website out, really nice stuff.
The hardtail looks ok for the cheaper price...

Decent spec for the money - especially if it has hydraulic brakes.
But the bike was never worth that £950 in the first place.

The Carrera Fury at Halfords has a similar spec and is around £500. I bought a similarly specced old school Saracen last year for £400 (supposedly £650) from Wiggle.

Always compare any spec with what's available at other price points. A high initial RRP is meaningless TBH.
Cool, retro and sometimes downright rude MTB and cycling themed T shirts. Just MTFU.

cool thanks, I missed the fury offer at halfords.. gonna look at the Agressor 2.0 this afternoon since its up at £332 but i can afford up to £750 so should be able to go for something better. Are Saracen decent now? i bought a saracen raw when i was about 15 and it fell apart before i even got home on it so swapped it out for a carrera banshee which has lasted me from 2001/02 until this year.

Saracen re-launched last year. Mine was from the runout of old stock I guess. But it's pretty solid with a decent spec... Rockshox Tora U-Turn up front, SRAM X5 transmission, Tektro hydraulic disks. Seemed a bargain at the time. Only downside is it's a tad heavy - and needs some work getting uphill.

Downhills are a blast though. :-)
