Anyone out there know of a good wheel builder in Devon. I'm after a pair of 26" touring wheels. I've searched the forums and spent a lot of time googling and have come up with Paul Hewitt, Harry Rowland, Spa Cycles, Wheelsmith and Saint John Street as options that aren't very local, just wondered if there was anyone a bit nearer.

Also, any thoughts on which of the 'non-devon' builders to go for?

I've had wheels built by both Harry Rowland and Spa and would recommend both. Postage isn't that much, and you can still speak direct to the wheelbuilder and ask for advice etc - the only thing you can't do is speak face-to-face. I think there is an advantage in dealing with someone who is a specialist (either in building wheels or in touring or both).
  • Thanks for that andy - I'm going to contact them both.

  • I have just had my wheels rebuilt by Tavistock Cycles, really good service and very professional. A good old-fashioned cycle shop run by someone who knows what they are doing.:

    Tavistock Cycles, Farriers Court, 1/2, Paddons Row, Tavistock - 01822 617 630
  • They were recommended on the identical thread to this in the commuting forum. I'd best check them out.
