New Forks Advice

Just recently got into biking again and just bought a 2010 Hardrock Sport. Looking to upgrade the SR Suntours that come as standard but wondering which to get?

Been looking at mid-range Tora's and Low end recons and also at the Marzocchi 22 R.

I'll im using the bike for is commuting so lockout is preferable, and the odd weekend out to Dalby Forest etc.

Hi,

I changed the Suntours on my Hardrock to Dart 2's. Performed a bit better, but they are very very heavy.

I then got some secondhand hand Reba SL's for £100. The difference is amazing, so much more plush, and nearly half the weight!

They're a bit battle scarred now, but they're such a great fork I moved them over to my Rockhopper frame which i built up for my new bike. Very pleased with them!

See if you can get a Tora 318 or Race for your budget.

JE James have 2010 Tora SL's for £129? Any good? Scouring eBay but to no luck

Yes, a good fork - better than the 22r I would say.

Yeah running Avid BB5's, hmmm for £20 more seems good!

Lighter, more adjustable, stronger, better damping - go for it!

You will need a shock pump though.

Not bad, but Recons are the same as Toras except the steel legs.

once you get to the top names and spend upwards of £350 or so there isnt a massive difference they all ride nice some are stiffer others a bit lighter.the difference becomes less when you reach a certain level.

I would advise against buying Tora SL's, they are essentially Tora's with Dart internals. Any of the other Tora forks i would recommend. I've used both Tora SL's and Tora 302's, which were both 2009 models. The SL's were faulty from the day i bought them so RockShox replaced them with the Tora 302 fork from higher up the range. The difference was definitely noticeable! Much better ride quality.

The 302 and SL use exactly the same internals (except no uturn option for the latter)

I been using tora sl's for the last year no problems, changed them for some rebas to shed a little weight and make my bike look nicer. Compared to the darts on my brothers bike they're so much better.
