Anyone use any non-circular chainrings? Considering buying rotor q-rings and crank. Any advice on these and ease of use etc. Also are they hard to adapt to?

Thanks for your help...

  • years ago i had a mate who had these on his mountain bike, it felt unnatural for me and i would regulary spin up on loose stuff with them.

I guess with time you would get used to them.

I've got some q-rings on my new bike, but I'm waiting for better weather before I take it out on a long ride. I've tried it on the turbo though, and they don't seem that weird. I was advised they'd take a couple of weeks to get used to, but I don't think it will take that long. I got the Rotor cranks too, and they seem very stiff.

The rings themselves can be mounted in one of 5 different positions depending on your use (i.e. two positions for time trialling, two for road riding, etc) the idea being to eliminate the dead spot at different points in the stroke.

I have had Q rings for about a year and they dont make that much/if any difference in power or smoothness

I was unsure about putting mine on my SRM as I wasn't sure if they would throw the numbers off. So, are you saying you're power output is consistent with regular chainrings?
