Personally I don't think John Terry did anything wrong. It says in the FA coaching manual, if a full back leaves a hole it's up to the centre half to fill it!0

Makes you wonder if Terry was sleeping with his ex.0 -
I'm with Bridge on this one. I would love to see how you would all react to your best mate ploughing your Missus ("ex" or not, she is the Mother of their Child) and then be expected to "Man up and take one for the team". What a load of bollox!
Isnt there an unwritten rule that mates stay away from each others ex's? Their is in my circle, thankfully .0 -

They don't need to be friends?
The England football team isn't a friendship circle? It's the national football team.
I don't care if they hate each other. They should be professional enough to put that to one side.0 -
I guess a lot of people don't understand the concept of "teamwork".
Yes - they are professionals, etc. But teamwork is about much more than simply 'doing your job' as it were.
They do team-building exercises for a reason - and we've seen many, many, many times in the past when they don't play as a team.
If Bridge feels uncomfortable and doesn't want to play on the team with Terry - that's his choice. He COULD suck it up if he wanted to go to the WC that badly I guess.
It's a shame that Terry is the better player, otherwise everyone would be calling for his head and to have him removed from the squad - but because he's the better player of the two, he gets away with it.0 -
Cat amongst the pigeons time. Im looking forward to seeing England get knocked out in the QFs in the World Cup. I cant wait to laugh at our ex Captain crying like a little school boy because his dream has been shattered, just like the last World Cup and the CL Final. Thats not Maning up really is it? I hate Gary Ne vile but at least he was man enough to walk up to every Portuguese player look them in the eye, shake them by the hand and congratulate them while Rio and JT were crying like little boys who had had their bikes stolen by bigger boys. Its a fecking game and you are a grown up, no one died, I felt embarrassed.
Spurs mean a LOT more to me than England do (just to clarify, I am English born and bred), I see every Spurs game on the net (edit, except the ones that I go to see, obviously) (inc meaningless pre-season games) on sometimes quite poor connections and quite often foreign commentary but don’t really watch England play, even when they are on TV. Didnt see Spain tearing England to shreds in a friendly a few Months ago. I cant imagine cheering on Stevie Me, Terry, Ferdinand, Rooney, these are people I would urinate on and then set on fire on any other day of the year, now they are my heroes? Er, no. I just hope that any Spurs players who do go don’t get injured and that they come back early and have enough time to recover before the 2010/2011 Premiership season starts. International football matches are largely quite dull anyway.
I haven’t yet decided who to put my money on, Brazil or Spain, probably Spain as they do play some lovely football.0 -

Sorry, but everyone seems to be forgetting that JT is married with twins, he then went off and had a four month affair with the mother of WBs son. To hide this for his own personal gain (sponsorship, team position, etc) he got a super injunction in court to cover up his sins, and there is also allegations that he paid for whatsername to have an abortion.Taken from the Telegraph wrote:Terry, who was voted Dad of the Year in a poll in 2009, has a history of questionable behaviour.
Four years ago he apologised his now wife for being unfaithful and was quoted saying: “I’ve misbehaved and slept with girls behind her back.
“I’m not going to cheat on her ever again and I want to marry her more than anything.”
Soon afterwards he was allegedly sexually linked to a 17-year-old fan.
In 2001, he was fined two weeks’ wages after being accused of drunkenly mocking American tourists at Heathrow in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.
In January 2002, he was arrested after a fracas in a London nightclub and later cleared of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Now, I'm sorry, but I don't care if you support Spurs, Chelsea, or anyone else, that is not the kind of man I want representing my country at the biggest sporting event in the world. The man is a total helmet, and due to the fact that he simply cannot keep his personal and professional life separate, he should do the honourable thing for a change and step down, allowing WB to represent his country.0 -

What's the super injunction got to do with Bridge?
Are you really sorry?
Terry's not there as a moral beacon of the UK. Only losers think a football captain of any team is anything other than the best football leader on the pitch.
No-one who watches the world cup is actually interested in what they get up to in the private lives. To be honest, in the spirit of fairness, everyone should be allowed to do what the hell they want, provided it's within the law etc etc.
Those footballers are in line to be part of the national team because they are the best players from that country. No more, no less.
To see them as otherwise is to be stupid. If you complain that people's kids see them as a role model, then tell them they're being stupid. The problem is not Terry, who's allowed to do what the hell he wants. The problem is people giving a sh1t about what he does in his private life.
Why else did he take the super injunction out?0 -

you would have to wait for them to dry out first - unless you had sunk a bottle of brandy before urinating on them...??0 -

But his private life now means we will be without a quality left back and so we will not have the best possible team on the pitch. he's a donkey and I hope he gets injured and misses the WC.Burning Fat Not Rubber

it was his ex only by a matter of 19 days !!!!
Terry should be dropped and Bridge allowed to play, this would certainly remove the main problem with team morale, in fact it might improve it.
For a footballing point we have several centre backs and certainly need a left back.
Terry could not complain - it is entirely of his own dishonerable behaviour that has damaged his countrys chances0 -
I agree with Northern Neil.
England need good left back more than a centre back, especially as no one else in the squad can kick a ball with their left foot!
Terry isn't the player he used to be anyway!0 -
Based on his last few games Terry shouldn't be in the team anyway. He was at fault for both of Saha's goals against Everton and didn't do much better against Inter last night.0
-
now Terry has effectively not only hurt Bridge personally but also cost him a chance of playing in the world cup and as a popular member of the team this will probably only make matters within the team EVEN WORSE.
If Terry is a proper man and loves his country as he says he does he would stand aside and let 22 dedicated team mates with great team spirit go and win the world cup.
not going to happen and he will become public enemy No. 10 -
As a lifelong West Ham fan, I share Stewie's sentiments. Much as I would like to see England do well, it's club before country every time.
I would be amazed if the vast majority of people who had served their apprenticeship on the terraces of their local team didn't feel the same (which rules out Surrey based Man U "fans" of course).0 -
Blimey, am I in the last century or something?
JT had an affair with WB's EX. People wronged = Mrs JT and... and... and that's it. Just her.
WB and whatsername had split up. He doesn't own her or have any rights over her. They were finished. End of.
Now, JT and WB were (apparently) best friends so it may be regarded as poor etiquette but that is it. Besides, if they were best mates then Wayne would know what JT was like with the ladies and therefore shouldn't be that surprised.
The idea that a player should have to leave a team because of something he did unrelated to team matters is nonsense. I would be mightly surprised if most of the fans bleating and booing from the terraces had not either cheated themselves or would if given the opportunity. Some people, Bridge included, really need to grow up.
As for lectures about whether he is "fit to represent" England. The team is full of players who have cheated, used prostitutes, missed drugs tests, been convicted of speeding - looks like the only players eligible for the team are in year 7 of the local church school.Pain is only weakness leaving the body0 -
At least your lot are going to the World Cup!
when we qualify, the whole nation goes into a state of dreamy "if only" fantasy, knowing full well that we will not get out of the group stages, but looking forward to a hell of a party for the short time we are there.
when you qualify, you seem to be able to talk yourselves out of it completely by waving your nobs around and throwing plastic furniture.
The sad truth is that you have a bunch of players who are perfectly capable of winning the trophy and a gang of supporters (including the media) who are hell bent on making sure that never happens again! :roll:0 -
Chelsea v Man City on saturday.
Some of the tackiling may be "interesting" to say the least. Broken leg for Terry, anyone?0 -

As someone born and living in England, I find I agree with nearly all of the above post. Where I'm a little bit sceptical is the ''who are perfectly capable'' bit - it's a matter of the personalities involved in the squad and I don't think they're up to anything more than being ''valiant'' (=''unlucky'' in the media) losers. For example, I think the England squad see no shame in losing to Brazil - a squad of winners would not accept such a defeat.
That said, they might get lucky and get a 3rd and 4th place play off match. And that would maybe be the best outcome: progress but none of the triumphalism0 -
+ 1 chingford skinhead.
If JT had been one of WB's unmarried MC mates would he have had such a sulk?
The only on to be aggrieved here is Mrs JT.
Can we club together and give WB his own ball to play with ?0
