RP23 notchy in Pro Pedal and loud!

After cleaning my bike the other day (Marin Wolf Ridge 08) I noticed that the rear shock seems to have devloped a 'notch' in its movement. I pushed down on the saddle and after the shock had moved about 25% of its travel it really stiffened up and took significantly more force to move through the rest of its travel.
Turned the pro pedal switch off and it was fine :?
The shock is also making a louder than normal 'air' noise when I compress it. Took the bike for a quick ride around the block and it felt ok but I know my bike well and something has defintely changed.
Only had the shock serviced in December.
What's going on???
