2009 Giant STP0 is there a better choice?

Hi, I'm after a skill building, jump to light freeride hardtail, my budget was about £300 but I have realised anything at that level would be more hassle and expense of the under £700 STP0 (which I can justify if the spec adds up) as it has the forks and brakes that I would want. The wheels are good enough and the drivetrain is more than I need. So for similar or less money new is three a skills. jump. light freeride bike that will be any better?
