Lower Back Pain/stiffness

when i have been riding hard (XC/Trail) for a few hours or so, i can sometime get pain and stiffness in the lower back (just below the belt line)
I have a good level of fitness and strength, just wondering if this is position related, i.e, saddle/bars etc..
has anyone else experienced similar trouble, and if so what did you do? or do i just need to get fitter and stronger
thanks for any advice

Quick and easy, move the saddle forward, makes you a bit more upright, less stress on your back.
If it improves the pain you might need a shorter stem or raise the bars, just experiment. Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"0 -

That proves that your bars are in the wrong place, now you've lowered your saddle it will start to affect your knees in the long run.
Put the saddle where it should be and adjust the bars accordingly. Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"0
