Which tyres are better? I assume the Michelin's roll better but which one will last longer?

I have got some knowledge of how the Vittorias will ride as I've got the IIIs but will the Michelin's be a better bet?

They both cost around the same wonga and will go on my training bike. Any other options for around £30 the pair will be considered! :)

Probably the PR2s, I've had mine ages and they're still going. Bought some PR3s a while back and haven't had to replace them yet. Plus I have heard the 3s are not as good long term pun*ture wise and general wear and tear.

My Rubino pros are 2 years old and still going strong.
Not sure about PR2 but my PR3 have been replaced on the rear after about 1500-2000 miles and that was to the canvas.
I'd go with the Rubino pros for a training bike and I'm sure many more will be a long to say the same.

Colour is definitely not an issue! I can find them both for around £30 a pair.

Performance in the wet is! My Rubino Pro IIIs are not amazing but they hold up ok. Are the Rubino Pro IIs much worse? I did hear that those were pretty rubbish in the wet! :(

Wow, what kind of roads do you ride on?! My last set of P3R's did over 8k and I only replaced them as a precaution. The central band had flattened (more on the rear) but not a sign of canvas - in fact I've never seen canvas on any P2R or P3R

My experience of ProRace is that they are a great race tyre and grip well in the wet - certainly anyone that thinks they don't hasn't tried Rubino Pros ! (I admit here I may be basing this comment entirely on one set of Rubino Pro Slick from about 2 years ago).

Durability the Rubinos are going to last longer but with the exception of a set of Pro2 service course limited edition tyres that wore down to the canvas pretty rapidly I've found ProRace reasonably durable.

Personally I'd take the ProRace for anything but a hack/commuter .

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

    .

I have tried Rubino Pro 2s (treaded) which in my experience, are better in the wet. I can quite believe slick Rubino Pros are no better though.

As it is for a training bike I would also vote for the Vittoria's, based soley on durability and puncture resistance.

On rolling performane and feel it would be the other way round, but I run Michelin PR3's on my best wheels and the Vittoria's on the winter / training wheels.

+1 I've had about 5000 out of mine and the rear's only borderline for a change (and nowhere near the canvas) cos I've used it on the turbo.

There must be an issue with your tyre or how it's been used, it's too big a difference to be random.
  • Can we still get hold of PR2's? I'd buy a few sets of multi-coloured bin-ends to use as 'training'* tyres if so.

*When I say training, I must point out that all my tyres are for training as I can't be doing with racing any more.

    Nelson,

There is a reputed seller on ebay (highonbikes) selling pairs of Michelin Pro Race 2 700x25 for £32 inc delivery.

    Hope this helps.

I do ride and corner quite hard, mainly due to my mad motor bike days.
I only ride the roads of Cheshire and Derbyshire.
The Cotton bands of the carcase were literally coming through what was left of the tread.
I still use Pro 3's though.I see some people say they are not great in the wet??I can decend nearly as fast in the wet as I can in the dry and I've never had them let go yet.I do lots of decents of the Cat & Fiddle and Snake pass etc so not particually slow decents.
