I don't see much great 'press' on Sram chains....I have all RED, but want to use other chain...recommendations? If DA, can the link that allows for open/ close be used? I hate breaking those chains everytime I need to get a chain off.

    Whichever KMC suits your budget.

The X10SL is lighter than a Sram Red chain, but better quality.

The X10L is really good vfm.

I run an X10SL on my red equipped bike and an X10L on my winter/trainer.

They use a link to close too.
  • Yes KMC all the way!! No other chain gets near my bikes.

    +1 kmc

I too run the SL on the good bike and a standard one on the commuter and mtb

I vote for the one you can get at the best price. Brand name be d*mned. Chains are not rocket science.:wink:
  • I only hear of Sram letting people down when they haven't installed it correctly at the joining pin, having said that lots of pro teams although sponsored by chain manufacturers such as eg.,sram and kmc tend to get Shimano fitted whatever.
Kmc has never lasted as long as shimano chains in my experience.
I have looked at another brand ird but have never tried them.
