Hi every one i am a newbie to the site and this is my first post.
I am a keen cyclist but it has been MTBing, i decided that i want to become the next Lance lol, and i am dying to buy a new road bike but have had to wait nearly 6 months for my work to open the Cycle to work scheme. the Scheme is about to reopen and i need to place my order soon.
I have been doing some serious research, reading posts on here everyday to try to help, but i thought i would ask what all you guys and gals thought. My LBS stocks Orbea and Trek, so i am trying to decide between the Trek 1.7 (2009) and the Orbea Aqua T105. both have groupsets of 105's. and both around the same price. between £945-£1000. any advice or thought would be very much appriciated. also i am in fife area in scotland any one know of any good LBS's in the area with good deals?

Cheers for you advice.

I'll go for the Orbea of those two. A colleague here at work has got exactly the same one (Aqua T105) and he raves about it!

    ORBEA

Try and get a lighter set of wheels if possible.
  • The Orbea is was my first choice, the only thing that is putting me off was the initial service i recived when i went to the orbea dealer, the dealer at the trek shop was much more helpfull, and spend more tiem with me. Think the orbea is still in front tho.

It's important to get good service from your LBS, this purchase is expensive enough, but, if the bike is set up 'properly' in the beginning, and you receive lots of support, you'll probably find yourself spending thousands in the future on upgrades, or new bikes, etc.
If LBS is sh1t, you may never enjoy your bike as much as you could.
I like Orbea's, so I'd vote for that, too, but you have to sort out the LBS first.

Got an Orbea(Onix) and love it to death, can't comment on the Trek but Orbea do have a very good reputation with regard to their warrenty handling. I have had an occasion to deal with the factory direct and was very impressed with the way I was dealt with.
  • My winter bike is a Trek, Mrs Squill has an Orbea, both 2009 models.

I would choose the orbea. And I love my trek.

IMO Orbeas are the most stunning bikes around. I bought an Orca last year and it is the dog's danglies.

My Winter hack is a Trek Madone, and whilst it is functional and reliable, every man and his dog has a Trek!

I don't understand why you need to ride them both...

There is no difference between the spec of the Liquigas paint scheme one and the BBQ black, just choose the colour you prefer!

Ive jus tput an order in for an Orbea Aqua TTG, so natuarally id say "get the Aqua".

I actually thought about getting a Aqua T105 but decided that with the chnage out of my £1000 i could buy some gear - i may regret that descion later, but hey its still a nice bike and i like it.

The way i see it you wouldnt spend money on a car with out a test drive, so a bike is no different to me when ur spending a grand on it.

I was going to go for a white Aqua San Remo ( http://www.kbcycles.com/more_details.php?id=100203 ) but i didnt like the black seat tube, It doesnt look too bad in the picture but when is saw it, it just didnt quite look right. - However the more i look at the colour scheme of the one i picked the more i like it.

I quite like the orange, it give the down tube bit more thickness if you compare the colour to mine.
Im getting my bike via Cycle2Work scheme so im still looking at about another 4weeks before i can pick it up (unless i get my voucher earlier).- nothing heavy just pottering around really. Longest ride 70miles but i just generally go out and ride between 20 - 30miles as often as i can, that can sometimes be 5times a week or as little as 2 depending on work.

Hi I've ridden both a trek 1.5 and an Orbea Aqua ttg today at Lbs, once I'd settled on the frame size I needed, I found that I preferred the Orbea. went out on them both a couple of times, couldn't put my finger on why I liked it more just felt right.
Picking it up tomorrow, getting some one to drop me off so I can get straight out on it. :D
This will be my first road bike and I've been looking round for a new bike for ages, felt like a little kid when I finally left the shop. Tomorrow will be like Xmas day.
