Not really off topic as there is a video secion at the top....

Anyone know of decent (and hopefully free) editing software so I can make short video's of commutes and mucking about on MTB. The Windows Movie maker does not let me use music from iTues as it says the right codec is not installed, but I am sure it is.

Want to do basic editing, drop in music and some titles and text. Just simple stuff.

Thanks.

I'm a happy windows movie maker user.

I've had the same issue, think I ended up converting the song files to mp3 or re-recording them using Audacity.

My last video, had to convert the song but got there in the end!

I used to use ULead Video Studio, which did everything you want - not sure about itunes though as I never used that. It wasn't free but at £40 a pop hardly bankruptcy territory. It's extremely flexible, and includes options to output at all the file types / definitions you could want including web vids.

Can't you convert itunes tracks to wav / mp3 with something like Audacity?

What music is it you are trying to add to WMM. If it's songs you've bought, IIRC purchased songs have copy protection on them which could be the problem.

For editing videos I usually use virtualdub although I'm not 100% sure whether you can add soundtracks etc. to it.

Have a look on videohelp.com, that site has a list of editing software.

    +1 on virtualdub

Great for editing avi's and more features than I'll probably ever work out how to use. It's free too!

Cheers, will have a play with virtualdub later tonight.

The music is stuff i have bought, but it should still let me put it where i want. It is not a protection issue, just that WMM wont accept MP4.

Thinking back I remember having trouble with windoze not recognising codecs. I installed the k-lite codec pack and that sorted it out.

You can add different audio to a clip in virtualdub Audio -> Audio from other file..... You might have to change the file type though.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
