Guys n Gals
I have just built up a new commuter and fitted the Coyote 32 spoke wheels I have. See, commuter bike pics thread.
On a previous bike I had some lovely 24 spoke MTB racing wheels, however the kept braking spokes on good ole Borough High Street !
Do you think I would notice some nice wheels on London roads ? If so, any sort of guide lines ? The only ones that really spring to my mind are the Mavic Crossrides circa £150-ish.
Hope hoops would be lovely, but I think out of my price for the commuter.
Thanks in advance.

You might notice a weight reduction.
Crossrides are about 1950g for the pair.
Fulcrum Red Metal 10 are about the same price and same weight.
You could get XT hubs built into Mavic 717 rims for about 150 quid. That would be my choice.
But weigh what you have. If worried about strength, get a wheel builder to stress relieve and tension them.0 -
Any wheel with a poor build will break.0

Why buy decent wheels for commuting? I've just paid £45 for a pair of wheels for my s-works to commute in on. The cheapest, nastiest wheels I've ever seen, but who cares.2011 Yeti ASR5 carbon: http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/5817307/

+1 for XC717s, and +1 for Merlin - only wish they built road wheels as well :-(

XC717's are standard kit on my MTB and have stood up to a decent range of off-road riding so should be more than enough for London roads as long as you avoid the potholes that would put you over the bars...."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." My Mavic Crossrides have got around 4yrs commuting in them through London. Have stayed perfectly true and show very little wear on the rims. Used with Koolstop dual compound pads and Spesh Nimbus Armadillos. Money well spent.0
