Does anyone know or have an idea about what Dino is on about?
In Coppi's veins gas flows, but in Bartali only blood flows

Sorry for the slight thread hijack, unfortunately I don't know the answer to your question.

However is that a quote from this book? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Giro-dItalia-Co ... 971&sr=8-9

and does anyone know where I can get a copy (for a reasonable price)?
  • It may come from that however I saw it somewhere else.

As for a resonable price, £10:

    Ah, ok.

Thanks for your reply, I've tried them previously and unfortunately they don't have it in stock. Thank you anyway.
  • I bought it from a local warehouse for under a fiver, that has/d a whole section of cycling archives.
A good read, but not quite what I was expecting.
    Re: FF's question:
I forget the exact response that Coppi made, when asked if he took PEDs, but, it was something like: "Only when it's absolutely necessary, which is most of the time."
That Bartali rode sans PEDs, is generally accepted as fact.

More kudos, as of course, at the time, what PEDs were available, were not illegal, as they are today.

  • I guess that although it is likely related to drugs, I was wondering if it could have been something else given it was a quote under a section on 'Myths and legends'...

Re that quote, here is the full version:
Interviewer: Do cyclists take la bomba (amphetamine)?
Coppi: Yes, and those who claim otherwise, it's not worth talking to them about cycling.
Interviewer: And you, did you take la bomba?
Coppi: Yes. Whenever it was necessary.
Interviewer: And when was it necessary?
    Coppi: Almost all the time!
