What's everyones recommendations for a lightweight waterproof jacket that is easily packable into rear jersey pockets?

I've been looking at the Rapha Stowaway, but tis a little pricey for what it is:

  • this is not waterproof mate, simply water resistant. the difference being that it doesnt have taped seams thus you'll still get wet. I use a paclite.

I have an Altura Crosslite. Had it a couple of years now. Really pleased with it.
  • Some Campag Racing Textran one's on the bay, £60 or offer. Bargain for a breatheable, waterproof and windproof jacket. I have one and they are very good very slim cut so go a size up

montane featherlite or the descente one cheap at pbk

do enough, as waterproof is not really what you need for pac away.
  • Cheers for the tips - I'll have a look into them.

Yes I appreciate this - "packability" is more important to me than complete "waterproofness" - water resistant is fine ;)
  • Hi,

I have had an Altura one, Campag Light Textran, Pearl Izumi all of which I sold on, once I got the Rapha Stowaway. I wear it most of the year round, it is Waterproof enough. The others I ended up soaking in because of the lack of breathability. So perfered the balance of the Rapha. It is alot, but if you can afford it I recomend it highly.

    Cheers

    +1 Montane Featherlite

I've got a red one. Small as an orange and does the job. If I know it's going to rain a lot, rather than the odd shower, then I wear a Gill eVent jacket instead (now DHB on wiggle I think), as it's tougher and more breathable but for the odd shower the Montane is just the job.

  • sorry but I disagree on the Montane Featherlight. About as water resistant as tissue paper (and about as comfortable when wet).
