Disc Brakes Rubbing

Hi all, I have been fettling my Felt Q520 mtb today, but one thing I am not familiar with is disc brakes; they (both front and rear) rub against the pads. This seems always to have happened (I havent ridden it much in the last year), and I don't know how to adjust them - they are the standard fit tektro cable discs by the way).

Can anybody give me any advice as to how I can adjust them to stop the rubbing, or is this a common problem?
Thanks

    from the tech link sticky

there is more than one "standard" tektro mech disc brake.

  • ive just been doing mine m8 on my Q220 which uses the same Aquila calipers, on the back of the caliper as you look through the spokes you'll see a large hex bolt. this is used to move the stationary pad closer or further away from the disc, check this first as it may need moved away. the manual asks for 0.3mm clearance and providing the discs aren't warped this should be enough.
on the other side of the caliper there is an adjuster nut much like the ones on your levers, this will set the distance of the pad controlled by the piston.
ideally you're looking for equal distance on both sides, i usually have the bike upside down so i can run the wheels freely and set them up from there :)

    hope this helps
