Yello all....hope somebody outthere has experience with Garmin 500 and provide a bit more info about customized screen options....

Can I customize Garmin 500 so I can have a single screen that will show me the following:

1. Current Power
2. Average Powere for a pre-defind time interval (e.g. 30 sec)
3. Current Hear Rate
4. Current Hart Rate Zone
5. Cadence
6. Speed

Thanks guys...

Yes, but don't quite know what you mean for 2

Basically you have upto 8 screens.

My fav is:- power 3s smoothing, power 30 sec smoothing, Lap power average, ride power average, lap time and cadence.

I like seeing the 3 sec, 30 sec and ave power all at the same time this is a great advantage of the 500 over the original yellow powertap comp. imho
  • Great stuff.....Thanks Chris...

What I meant by "2" is pretty much what you mentioned below, I guess you are calling it power X sec smoothing...so, just to make sure I understand correctly.....in one screen, you can have a view of your power in the last 3s, in the last 30sec, (or any other pre-determined interval, right?

Do you by any chance now anyting by Joule? Any opinions 500 vs Joule? What would I get that justifies double the price?

the 500 is a great piece of kit,my main riding screen is power(3secs),heart rate, cadence and workout time,2nd screen is averages with gps on the 3rd screen.

the mount is great as it fits on the tribars aswell.

    Yes and ...um no :?

For current power you have 3 options
    1) 1 sec power 'smoothing'
    2) 3sec smoothing
    3) 30 sec smoothing.

You cant define any other length of time.

but you can set an average power by lap, so you press the button at the start of your interval then press it again at the end and you can view your average power as you go along.

There's a subtle difference between 30 sec smoothing and lap power which is hard to explain on t'net.

Even if you don't understand what I'm trying to say ('cause I don't  ), I think you'll find the 500 good to use.

As for the joule, do a search from my posts on the training forum as there was a thread which expressed some opinions on it.
