Fizik Arione Kium or Tri2?

Hi all,
The plastic/carbon bit has snapped on my Selle Italia Thoork saddle after several years of use and it is in need of replacement. I have heard great things about the Arione series but I do spend a lot of time on my clip ons which had consistently given me numb bits in the past with the Thoork, hence I am considering the Tri2. I know the standard Arione is quite popular among the triathletes as well so I need to make up my mind. I know the saddle is a very personal thing but any opinions from users of both variations would be helpful.
Thanks in advance!

AFAIK the TRI2 has the same shape and padding density as the arione Kium, just with a more padded nose.

I'm an arione fan, and if I was going to spend a lot of time on the nose of the saddle, I'd go for the Tri2

  • Definately get the Tri version. I used to use the standard one and there is no padding in the nose so found it uncomfrotable. Switched to teh Tri II and it has lots of padding. It'd actually make a good race saddle too with the padding when you are on the rivet.

I personally found the TRI2 was over padded and moved around to much when perched on the nose, it was fine in 10mile TT's but anything over ( 25/50 ) it gave me some of the worse saddle sores ever.

I'm now using an Antares on my TT bike, got me round a 100mile TT on the nose no problems.

Of course saddles are personal, and what works for one person doesn't always work for another. Trial and error is the name of the game.

Thanks for your opinions guys. It's a shame that most bike shops don't let you try on new saddles before you splash out the cash, it's definitely a game of trial and error, but it's hard to decide which one to try first.

I agree with Mog UK, I have both Arione (Kium) and Antares, and the Antares is much nicer to be on the nose of. It is slightly wider and flatter than the Arione, with padding that extends right to the tip, and is dense and supportive.

Have a look at the Selle Italia SLR T1 too. I use a normal Arione on my road bike, but I didn't get on with the tri version on my TT bike. The SLR T1 was much more comfortable.
