Any recs?
Mate is buying from Wiggle - so any specific related products would be good. He has a crappy hand pump at the moment that just doesn't get much air into his tyres - something that will get a decent amount of air in for commensuarate effort is ideal. As usual a good balance between cost and effectiveness would be great - frame clip would be great too.
I've always used the topeak master blasters - seem fine to me....

Personally, I don't believe there is a GOOD mini pump. At best I would rate most of them as
adequate. Pain in the *ss to use, you never can get decent air pressure out of them, they tend to bend or break the little threaded thingy on the valve. I carry a Topeak Road Morph
and while it may be a bit heavy, I just don't care. Good pressure, fairly easy to use, doesn't bend that threaded thingy. Anyway that's how I see it(FWIW).0 -
Yep and I know that people say you should use the CO2 cannisters, but I think that is a bit beyond him. Have told him to get a good floor pump - this is just to keep him going if he flats on the road I think.http://www.georgesfoundation.org

I can second the Lezyne - they are superb. A bit more expensive but well worth the investment....!
I have a couple, a 120psi and a 160psi (for when i travel abroad - to use with my tubs)
Heres the one i would recommend....

I third the Lezyne, they are good mini pumps.Smarter than the average bear.0

I've got that pump (Lezyne mini) but mine is a medium. In fact it was sent to me in error by CRC when I ordered the micro floor drive Lezyne. I was initially disappointed but I have to say it's a thing of beauty (in red) and was happy to hang on to it.
Only problem I found was getting high pressures as it's hard work.
Yes I know, I need to MTFU0 -
You want the road drive for higher pressures although you`ll get nowhere near 160psi.

I'll make it 5 +'s in a row, then. I have the Road Drive... Very good, but not 160psi though.Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!0

mine is in the signature pic, tucked up on the bottle cage base.0 -
I'm in the Lezyne Road Drive appreciation society as well. Don't think there is a mini pump on the market that could get up to 160psi but this will definately serve it's purpose.0

I find a CO2 pump with a trigger which lets you control the flow of gas to be the best.Expertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/

I have tried loads of mini pumps including a couple of Lezynes - I dont think any of them are really fit for purpose except as back up for C02. To be fair, Lezyne are well made but I still find it a real struggle to get anywhere near 100psi. The Lezyne floor pump is good but too bulky except for touring.0

One thing that may be worth mentioning, from the Lezyne reviews it seems the extension tube screws on to the valve stem, I have some tubes (can't remember the brand) with valve stems that aren't threaded. I presume this would not work in this situation.
I use a Topeak Turbo Morph - fantastic pump and capable of track pump pressures, only it is too large to count as a mini-pump.0 -
Really good advice. Thanks for everyone that contributed to this thread. I've torn a number of tips off presta valves with my little 90degree Blackburn compact pump. Drives me nuts so have ordered a Lazyn Road Drive Mini pump. Will weigh less than the CO2 and can be used multiple times. Between Sterling and John O'Groats there aren't any easily accessible bike shops and if you have more punctures than CO2 canisters, you need a pump, so why not just carry the pump and leave the CO2 at home? That's what I plan to do now. Sorted.Summer - Cannondale Six Ultegra
Winter - Condor Bivio - cyclocross bike for commuting, cycle paths & rainy days - brilliant

Cute, but it's the flexible hose that stops you breaking the valve when you're out on the road that's a winner for me.Summer - Cannondale Six Ultegra

I've got a cheapo Topeak Pocket Rocket. Gets my tyres upto the required pressure in not that long a time. There are probably better alternatives that are lighter, and can reach a higher pressure quicker, but mine was cheap and I've had it years, and I don't make a habit of using it except when I puncture on the road.0

Just looking to buy the Lezyne Road Drive. What size should i get? Medium or large. I assume the difference is you have to do more strokes with the medium?Orbea Marmolada (2009)

Prefer the Topeak Road Morph myself but it is a bit bulky0

another Lezyne fan mainly due to the flexible hose which is excellent...HOWEVER...remember to grease it every now and again as I had an incident where when unscrewing the hose from the valve it actually unthreaded the valve and the tyre deflated with a massive whoosh!! tried to get the hose off 3 times and each time the same thing happened. I ended up riding home with the hose hanging off the valve!!!
anyone else had that problem or could it have been the inner tube...which is a conti race?0 -
Is the "Lezyne Road Drive pump" small enough to fit into a jersey pocket? I'm looking for a mini pump to fit into my pocket.0
