  • One of my cycling friends has a merida road bike and very happy with it. Forget the model.
They make bikes for other manufactureres like SPecialised so I understand so I don't think you'll be getting a dud! Good spec for the money.

They seem very expensive for what they are; or are you getting a good deal?
  • not sure about the black!! but like you said decent specs! it rides well to
  • £800!!

I suppose for £800 it's OK but if you could stretch to £1000 you'd get a nice bike from Ribble, Boardman or PlanetX etc. Would have 10 speed not 9 so is easier to update. the Boardman gets a really light frame and SRAM Rival which is much nicer than Tiagra (hidden cables for one thing).

It wouldn't be where I would be spending £800 of my money. £800 for 9 speed Tiagra equipped Merida???

I could do a new COLNAGO Primavera with either 10 speed SRAM Rival or Ultegra 6600 with Dura-Ace shifters & Fulcrum 7 wheels, for not a great deal more. All new bar the DA shifters which are in VGC. Different class of component & COLNAGO badge!
  • I've just bought a 903-18 as a winter training bike, very pleased, full tiagra not bits and bobs, reasonable wheels and finishing kit, it rides very well.
I've been down the Planet X road before, and yes you do get more, but you do pay more, at that price point I think its great value, plus I'm a believer in supporting your lbs.

I had a Merida Road Ride 903 as my starter bike.

Did me well. Was Tiagra kitted. Good starter bike but make sure your LBS gives you a stonking deal.

    planet x 105 carbon is £899 - or Alu £799

If cost is an issue I would go the extra £99 and have a 10 speed 105, carbon from PX.
  • That colnago looks very tidy! Merida are nice (I have an old one as winter bike) Planet x are always good as are boardman but that colnago seems great value... It times like this that i wish i needed a new bike :?

Very tidy? It is better than that - it's not been out on the road yet!
