Just been messing about with my Trek 6000 commuter hack and noticed that there is prob enough space to fit in 700c wheels and skinny (25mm) tyres. As the bike is disc braked I should be able to get 32 hole rims to match my Hope hubs...

Anyone done this?

Just put slicks on your 26" wheels, I have put Schwalbe big apples on my MTB and it is very fast on road.

I also have the advantage that I can still treat it like an MTB so enjoy my commute (jumping curbs, rolling stairs etc etc)

Also there is a chance that when bottomed your forks could hit the tyre, so if you ignore the above advice make sure of that.
Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?
  • how would the forks hit the tyre? youd need to take a pretty heavy hit on the road for the crown to drop below the arch, its unlilkely your forks are gonna bottom out as low as that, im no expert though and if im wrong ill stand corrected.

also one would assume the forks would be locked out for road use.
i spent all me money on whisky and beer!!!

a 700c rim with a 25mm tyre has a radius of 335mm a 26" rim with a 2.125" tyre has a radius of 330mm and considering many forks will take a 2.6 tyre you dont need to worry.

unless the legs are adjustable in the lower crown where things can be fun.

  • All sorted over the weekend. Rims and tyres ordered...

I have about 10mm of clearance on my project 2 forks and a bout 15mm out back, so i could run cyclocross tyres if the mood took me...
