new shifter name plates

I tried workshop with this but noone seemed to know...
Came off on black ice the other day. I'm OK but my 2008 Ultegra shifters (not triple if that makes a difference) are not as pretty as they once were. They work OK but both name plates are smashed to bits. I'd like some new ones but suspect I'll have to pay about £15 for some small bits of plastic: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/product-Shim ... -17794.htm
Questions:
Are the right and left ones the same?
Is there are cheaper option? Perhaps non-shimano?
Does it matter? Is there any consequence to not having these bits of plastic?
