When are they out? Can get a 2010 in April, but not sure if I need two race bikes. The VN Yukon was a planned replacement for the Ribble winter bike.

but it will not ride any better, or last any less long.

It might ride better if it's double butted tubing like the PX compared to the plain gauge Sabbath or VNs. Both of whom use DB tubing on the more expensive frames.

I have a Van Nicholas Amazon tourer and a Litespeed Archon road bike and don't think I would notice any difference in the welding quality. The Amazon is a hell of a lot heavier, that would be the main difference. Think it is plain gauge tubing. But then you wouldn't be looking for ultra-light on that sort of bike.
  • Now I may be going mad but I'm sure I read a post on here from Dave at Planet X this afternoon at work that ran into the reasons there will be no more Lynskey PX bikes - Lynskey had bowed to pressure from CRC and OEMs to stop offering cheaper Lynskey frames as it was damaging business. Also stated that there had been quality and supply issues and the tests on the new VN frames showed them to be stiffer.....

So is the Sportive I'm building going to be a piece of bendy low quality cr@p in which case they can have one more back to sell?

I'm guessing our American friends got wind of it and forced the post to be removed?
  • yes thats right

not sure why that message was pulled , it was just a statement of the situation as it stood , i thought it was pretty neutral and just informative , weve nothing against lynskey and theres no issues between us , we had a great time doing business with them , but our vertically integrated direct sell business model doesnt really sit well next to a traditional distribution that Lynskey use with the likes of hotlines and chain reaction .

The irony is , two years aho Lynskey set up with us a direct sell operation in the USA for planet x distribution into the states , so they have even tried our business model in the states selling planet x into the us market .

your sportive will be fine , my message also said we havent yet tested the new vn made frames , they should arrive any day, so time will tell if we can make a better bike working with van nicholas than lynskey , that is of course our target .
  • Cheers Dave. Had a red Chris King headset and the forks fitted today and it looks the dogs....if it rides as well I'll be a happy man..

You haven't got any of the old "X" headtube badges kicking around have you - need something to finish off the front end?

I agree with the Sabbath, I have one of the original Sunday's and can't fault it. Their customer service is great, there was one tiny scratch on one of the stickers when it was delivered from the bike shop. I called the shop and the next day a full set of decals arrived direct from Sunday/Sabbath. Only trouble is that I may have to save up for a silk road pro now...
    Sunday September Ultegra SL
    Raleigh and BSA single speed
    Specialised Rockhopper comp disc
    And some others
  • no problem on the headbadge

why lust after that when a van nicholas mistral will be built to the same high standards and rides just as well

Of course it does. And a Focus Cayo rides just as well as a Parlee too. ;)

Phcp, they're custom butted, each tube is tuned to that rider and the characteristics he/she wants.

+1 - You can't compare a Baum to anything as basic as a VN, good grief! .
