Funny you should say that i haad the very same problem with my "Fury", the drive side crank bolt came loose after my first proper ride.

    Same here . . . :?

+1 for retightening the cranks, gonna replace mine with an external bb chainset, not sure which one yet, depends on payday really

Thinking of doing that too, probably before next summer - keep us posted when you decide what to get.
My abundant supply of MTFU is reserved for use in dry, sunny conditions.

I gotta ask.... how the hell do you smash up a seat when your sitting on it without breaking yourself up?

Well, it's been over 12 months with the Fury and I thought I'd update this.

The last few weeks have been a period of going through the usual yearly service items. First up was the headset. The original was completely knackered so I ordered a new FSA headset and duly fitted it. Possibly a bit tricky for a home mechanic but as an ex-engineer it was a fairly straightforward job with some patience and a little care.

After the headset was replaced I started to notice the bottom bracket was a bit 'notchy'. Understandable given the 14 months of abuse in the peaks and I have no complaints about it's performance. I had been happy with the powerspline so I tried to replace it with the same but no-one had one in stock and I don't like waiting so I shopped around on the internet and got a new Deore crankset and external bottom bracket from the Woolly Hat Shop for a really good price. I had the BB shell faced by my LBS and fitted the cranks myself.

Following the BB I changed the rear mech which after a number of rock strikes was no longer 100% straight. This was replaced with a new X7 mech from Merlin. Along with the new rear mech I changed the rear cable and outer as the original was looking in poor condition. Again, all fitted by myself using the various online channels for advice and videos.

Yesterday I changed the pads in the brakes (this isn't the first time I've done this) for Superstar kevlar pads. I have to say these pads are exceptional. I don't know how long they'll last but it's felt like I've upgraded the brake system!

I am starting to think about a new bike but I'm really agonising over it. I have ridden other expensive bikes but when you can get a bike as good as this for this kind of money I really have to question my own sanity spending too much on a new bike. Current thinking is keep this as my HT and get the new Boardman FS Team as my FS. Do I need to spend anymore than this? I just wish I could demo one.

Anyway sorry for the long post - but it is aimed at people searching the forum for peoples experience of this bike just like I was last year.

I'll finish with some pics from this mornings ride...

    Some nice upgrades there.

For the record, the mechanic at Halfords mentioned that their suppliers would only be seeing stock of the Powerspline BBs in June. If mine ever goes again I think I'll be taking the same route as you have.

I love the look of that,
some really well thought out upgrades there that don't overly crowd up the look of the bike but instead enhance it.
This has given me a bit of inspiration for my own Boardman Pro (last years :( ) just need to press the button for a set of Nics.
Btw how are you finding them? :)
  • The Nics are great. I've no complaints. I don't have much experience of different tyres so I can't say if they're better than anything else. They seem to grip well, and they roll reasonably fast. They're not too bad on road when you have to ride on tarmac and they're wearing well. I had no issues at Lee Quarry for the Brownbacks race yesterday.

I think these cost 19quid each from On-One which makes them a bit of a bargain in my eye. Saying that, I really liked the Speed Kings, but I couldn't find any folding ones for a price I was prepared to pay.
