Hello,
I am looking to get a mountain bike for around £400-500,
looked on halfords; I would of fancied the 09 fury at £439 a few days ago but it appears i have missed the deal and its gone back up to £550!
I also like the GT agressor xc2 at £500 also,
I am Worried about buying one of these bikes and then it being £100 cheaper a few days later, does anyone have any advice or intel on future deals? price drops ?
Thanks

Hi Josh,
The Fury will most likely come down in price soon, Halfords prices are like yoyo's.
I bought my wife last years Fury and its an excellent bike, IMO you wont find better at this price point. This years Fury got an excellent review in the What Mountain Bike mag, best in test IIRC. If you can hold out, I'd wait to get it on the next price drop, however best to test ride one, or at the least sit on one and have a play to see if it suits and which size is best.

I think this is a good idea.
Do the bikehut staff get commision on bikes they sell? If so then it's probably worth their while to try and sort something out for you webb.
Also this might help you judge the frequency of Halfords promotions.

Cheers for all your replys, really helpful,
I didnt see that promotions bit on the halfords website, very useful info
And that giant yukon i will give some time and look into it! Will i have to build it
Thanks tho guys really appreciate it!!0 -
Will you have time to build it?
Took me me 2 hours but I was drooling at the time
All I had to do was put pedals on, turn the bars and put seatpost in and put frame protector pad on ( 30 mins job )
Full instruction came with it
Good luck with your choice and happy hunting0 -
For what its worth I'd have a dig at Halfords for the 2010 Fury myself check out the WMB test they gave it aglowing report.
Ask to see the Manager in Halfords not the assistant tell him you want one but at 20% off then wait and be prepared to walk out if he won't do the deal. Let's face it there are lots of Halfords to go to when they come back on sale and times are tough in retail.Ribble Gran Fondo

My Trip halfords this morning was a fail spoke to the manager and the answer was an expected no!
I also asked if there was any future deals and he said he didn't no!
So it looks like a waiting game for me. Thanks for all yur help guys, really cool forum will definately be staying active on here, thanks0 -
I got an Aggressor XC2 in december (£315 on offer), loved it, used it once and then it snowed. End of january used it a couple more times and noticed that whenever I did a hard front brake or stoppie the front wheel would go out of alignment with the frame, like the forks were twisting. I had to undo the QR to fix it each time as the axle was rotating about the dropout. I tried tightening the axle to the point of my hand hurting pushing the QR closed. Problem was still there! Took it back to Halfords and the guys were great. Tried a QR from a boardman bike which was better but same problem . Took it back again on a sunday morning, they took the forks off a another boxed model and replaced them the same day and serviced the bike at no notice, quality service. Problem still there... so I dont know what it was, never got it resolved. Thought it might be weight but I'm only (!) 15st and the bike should be designed to cope with that as it's an american firm after all... Only other thing it could be is two sets of crap XCR forks or the frame geometry was out.
Anyway, I returned it and got the Carerra Fury last week for £439. Well chuffed. What a fantastic bike. It's fast and the steering and tracking from the forks is outstanding with the 15mm axle. Epicon 32mm forks are damn good. Only thing I did apart from build it myself was fit Schwalbe Crazy Bob 2.3's for mainly road use. It now flies round corners too! Highly recommended.0 -

Yeh just gunna wait after that story about the xc 2 its steering me away from them, the only problem i have with it is that I will have an identicle bike to my dad maybe a small saddle change will suffice to tell them apart.0

Well ive waited and its paid off
Halfords have a deal on GT xc2 and xc3 bikes atm ? 1/3 off from £500 to £330 on the bike i wanted!
