'Baggy' Cycling Jacket - Any Ideas?

Hi guys.

Any recommendations for a decent cycling jacket that is a litte longer / baggier than your usual 'racing style' jacket?

I'm 6' 2", and I've just had to send a selection of Gore Phantom and Oxygen jackets back to Wiggle, after finding that they're just not long enough for me.

I'm not exactly 'fat', but I still do quite a bit of weight-lifting, so anything with a 'race-fit' ends up being too tight for me.

At the moment I'm still using a DHB waterproof jacket that I purchased about 3 years ago - but I'd like to upgrade to something a little 'snazzier'.

Some of the Gore jackets come in a straight or MTB looser fit - check out their website. The Oxygen and Phantom are slimmer fitting intentionally. The Gore Tool is a fine choice.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

    Anything aimed at MTB.

Although I wear an Ice Peak Softshell in the winter, much cheaper than cycling specific and nice long articualted arms for bent elbow pedalling duties :D

Gore Cross. At 6'1" and over 15stone, I could fit well into the Large.

XXL on the race fit ones were tight and sleeves way too long.

  • I find Gill sailing jackets are a good option - breathable (more waterproof though slightly less vented than their road cycling range) with long sleeves, a low cut back and zipped side pockets.

A little looser and more casual looking than a traditional cycling jacket that looks fine off the bike. L or XL fit me at 6'2" & 15st.

    Boardman CX Team
    Trek 8000
    Sirrus framed 'special'

  • Thanks for all the help, guys.

I didn't think about looking at the Gore website. Doh. I can see that all the jackets I've been buying are 'tight' or 'slim' fit.

The only bummer is that not one of the 'comfort' fit jackets have a long 'drop tail' (that is what you call the bit that hangs over your arse, isn't it?).

Butt crack exposure whilst cycling is one of my biggest fears, you see.

edit: thanks also to the guys that recommended jackets outside the Gore range - I'll take a closer look at those.

Why not get some bib shorts or tights?
  • I can recommend the Gore Path II, it is not as sporty looking as other Gore jackets but is definitely not as tight fitting as the Xenon and Oxygen which are described as having a 'tight fit', whereas the path has a 'loose fit'. I am carrying a bit of beef and find the jacket fits really well, long sleeves, good drop off at the back. Windproof, waterproof. All in, a good jacket
