Planet x or Campagnolo

Hi
Thinking of getting some new wheels for my Ribble Carbon Sportive to use when the weather ever gets better.
Currently using Campag Khamsins, which i'll use for the commute and winter, and have been looking at Campag Ventos and Planet X Wheelset Model B - 20h/24h Campag (1750ish grams and £113 and £99 respectively). Anyone got any views on either?

The Model B's are an actual 1657 grammes if that helps your decision making0

And the Vento's are actually 1827g. Not that it makes them slow - I use them in winter and they've been bulletproof. Wouldn't know about Planet X though.0

Is that with skewers?
Also, are all Campag freehubs very loud? I have Hope hubs on my mountain bike so I should be used to it, but you notice the noise far more on the road than off!
The Khamsins certainly grab peoples attention when you pass them, but it does get to me a bit on long downhills.
Are the Planet x wheels clicky?2008 Giant Trance (own build)

Ventos not much of an upgrade from Khamsins (PS the weight is exc skewers). Model Bs are cheaper, lighter and more aero, so I'd definitely go for them.0

I have Campag Proton's which are much noisier than my Model B's, I miss the noise of my Proton's when using other wheels though.0 -
go with campagnolo ... better quality and don't scream "cheap"0

That's very informed :roll:Mens agitat molem0 -
Planet X do scream cheap. They might be "good value" if brand, style, heritage etc. don't matter to you, in the same way a Daewoo is good value ... why do people ever buy Audis if they could buy Daewoos?
I'm not saying they are crap wheels, and willing to take users' word for it they perform well ...0 -

Have you ridden one?Mens agitat molem0 -
I read on a forum that Campag users suffer with erectile dysfunction so it must be true :shock:winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

Ok, ok, I give in to the Planet X mob that is Bikeradar... I'll sell my horrible branded bikes which are vastly overpriced and support an evil marketing operation .. I'll go straight to the planet-X website, failing to pick up any Campagnolo componentry on the way, I'll immediately order a stack of Model Bs and the amazing C2W ProCarbon SL BMX thing that is the best value bike in the world and will make me faster. Honest!
Yes I've ridden Planet X and Campagnolo equipped bikes, and driven Daewoos and Audis.0 -

Right, its just sweeping comments not backed up by anything of substance don't make a lot of sense...Mens agitat molem0 -
the only thing of substance my friend is a planet x bicycle ...
am i'm about to become the proud owner of a BMX type road bike with Model Bs!0 -
The model Bs are fine wheels, don't worry about how cheap they are. They are good wheels! Had mine since last year and they are brilliant.0

who's been shooting at you on a ride? seriously though i bet a rifle would rip a big hole in them.
Hehehe no I mean they've been abused by some pretty nasty road surfaces for the past two winters. Though being based near to Altcar Rifle Range........that's got me thinking :P
Mind you, looking at the state of my tyres (my rant about these is in another thread) you'd think an AK47 had been taken to them :shock:0 -
I used to ride a bianchi 928 c2c that had Khamsins and they felt heavy and where never fast, they never buckled but i did have to have them in the shop because of a dodgy pawl..
I changed them for the model B's and it was a big improvement.. They wher fast and light and strong, great value wheels....0 -
Loads of club members I ride with have Model Bs.
Never heard a bad word said about them.0 -
Slightly OT, but can anybody tell me whether the model B rims are Kinlin 30mms?
Finding this out has now become an obsession for me. I even asked Ian Cammish of Planet X, but he didn't know what I was on about! I've gone and ordered a set of Campags model Bs to see what all the fuss is about, but if the KT/Quando hubs turns out to be pants and the rims are not made of plasticene, I might have a stab at rebuilding them using higher quality (read: sexier/posey) hubs. Possibly from Soul.
The amount of times that Planet X model B comes up makes me think it deserves a sticky.0
