Hi All

Im about to buy either the Cube Attention 2010 or the Cube Acid 2010 and need some advice from you guys. Im new to mountain biking so rely on reviews somewhat to get an idea of whats good and whats not. Both of the specs on this bike are very similar, except for the Fork (Rock Shox Dart 3 100mm, PopLoc on the ACID &........ Suntour XCM Lockout 100mm on the Attention) and the Rear Derailleur (Shimano Deore XT RD-M772 Shadow on the ACID &..... Rear Derailleur: Shimano Deore RD-M592 Shadow).

Is the difference of £80 worth it for these different specs. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

  • cube acid all the way...... my brother has one and they are a great bike it all depends on your budget but the spec difference is worth goin for the acid but cubes are great bikes which ever you have you wont be dissapointed
  • just looked at the specs again to remind myself of the difference... which is the suspension the acid runs on rock shox where as the attention runs on suntour not as good in my opinion the suntours are the highest spec they do but the rock shox although low down in rock shox range are the better fork imo
  • I was asking the same question about a year ago - ended up going for the Acid, purely because of the remote fork lock-out. Mates thought it was gimmick at first, but i've actually found it to be very useful!

I'm pretty much a beginner as well, but found all the components (at least on the 2009 model) up to the job...although having said that I don't hammer it every weekend, kids put paid to that! But it stil gets used enough to test it out properly!

Deore XT has remained true throughout, only needed adjusting slightly at first service (cable stretch as expected), but since then has been excellent.

My only gripe would be the quality of the paintwork. I've found it fairly easy to chip & seen areas where it's started to flake a little. However this might just be my luck!

Overall it's a good bike, I would say it's worth the money compared to a lot of similar models of similar price.

Is it better than the Attention? Well, I would say yes purely because of the remote poploc on the fork. However RockShox Dart 3 are still only a 'bottom-end' fork, so if your plans are to really give it some welly every weekend, you might want to factor in extra cash for an upgrade at some point.

    Good luck!
    Cheers
  • The acid is a Great Value for Money bike! a lot of good HT frames out the cube stable, well thought out and great bikes!
Oh, and suntour has the Epicon as its high end fork which according to the reviews is a decent fork!!

stevep3156 the paintwork is the only gripe i could say i had with my cube, i had a reaction k18 and the slightest stone to hit the paint would take a good flake off. apart from that i loved the bike and i`m still regretting selling it
  • now i disagree sorry dwill i have a boardman and all you have to do is look at the frame and paint falls off my brothers acid does not have that problem it has been on many hard trail and xc rides and not much in the way of marks or scratches
  • The Cube Acid & the Attention both share the same frame, and I don't think you would notice the difference in performance in the slight difference in the groupset which is on these bikes, so I would get the Attention and put the £80 towards a better set of folks, as both bikes folks are not the best out there!!! The Attention looks great in Black & green. Nearly bought one but got a Merlin Malt 1 instead

the paint finsh/anodising on my Acid seems as hard as nails. no noticable stone chips at all
