The SRAM clad Boardman Team Carbon is on my list for possible next bike. Was reading some reviews on it which claimed that Halfords were unable to set up SRAM gears. How does set up differ from Shimano? Would be attempting maintenance and setting up myself rather than Halfords, so would really like to know if this will be an issue.

Also, a real numpty question, but how does this double tap thing work on SRAM?

SRAM setup is no different in principle to shimano, although the positioning of the screws themselves is different - but you still have outer and inner limit screws on the front & rear mechs which work in exactly the same way. I found that cable tension on the front mech is quite critical to good shift performance on SRAM...

With doubletap you push once and release to shift to a higher gear (ie down the cassette) and push and follow through to shift to a lower gear (ie up the cassette). There are probably some vids on youtube which will show you....

my sram is a mess - you do need a shop that have experience of it.

find a decent lbs with it on sale and ask them.... worth a few quid for them to tweak it after buying.
  • Have a look on the SRAM website,

    www.sram.com

there is a youtube video guide to setting up the mechs
