Shimano shifter - broken name plates

Hi

Came off on black ice today. I'm OK but my 2008 Ultegra shifters (not triple if that makes a difference) are not as pretty as they once were. They work OK but both name plates are smashed to bits. I'd like some new ones but suspect I'll have to pay about £15 for some small bits of plastic: http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/product-Shim ... -17794.htm

Questions:
Are the right and left ones the same?
Is there are cheaper option? Perhaps non-shimano?
Does it matter? Is there any consequence to not having these bits of plastic?

Thanks

Think this might depend on the model, but I needed replacement plates for 6510 shifters and these are different for the left and right.

I don't think so. I got mine from a seller on ebay so you might save a couple of quid by looking there, if you haven't already.

Either, "yes, of course it matters - don't you care about the aesthetics of your bike?"

    or "no, not really".

The covers are only to tidy up the look of the shifter and don't serve to keep grit out, at least that's the case on the 6510's.

One who are always advertising these on eBay are George Hall's in Mkt Harboro
    - they do exist as a real bricks&mortar shop so you could give them a ring
